AiroTEC CMRU Organizes “Leaf Story Bags” Workshop to Upcycle Agricultural Waste, Add Value, and Reduce PM 2.5 Pollution

Asian Air Quality Operations Center by Space Technology, Geo-Informatics & Environmental Engineering (AiroTEC), Chiang Mai Rajabhat University (CMRU), organized a hands-on workshop entitled “Leaf Story Bags” to promote the upcycling of agricultural waste into environmentally friendly products and to help reduce PM 2.5 air pollution caused by open burning. The workshop was conducted in three sessions.

The first session was held on March 17–18, 2026, at Nong Yaeng Subdistrict Municipality, Nong Yaeng Subdistrict, San Sai District, Chiang Mai Province.

The second session took place on April 1–2, 2026, at the multipurpose pavilion in Village No. 1, Mueang Len Subdistrict, San Sai District, Chiang Mai Province.

The third session was held on April 7, 2026, at the Agricultural Productivity Enhancement Learning Center, Sa-nga Ban Subdistrict, Doi Saket District, Chiang Mai Province.

The objective of the activity was to transfer knowledge on transforming agricultural waste materials, such as leaves, into creative handmade products in the form of bags. Participants engaged in both theoretical and practical learning, covering design concepts, material preparation, and decorative techniques such as embroidery. These processes aimed to enhance product value and enable participants to further develop these skills into supplementary income opportunities.

Participants from local communities attended the workshop in a friendly and interactive atmosphere that encouraged knowledge exchange. The knowledge gained can be applied to generate income and improve quality of life in a tangible way.

AiroTEC CMRU, aims for this initiative to serve as a model for sustainable haze mitigation through community participation in reducing open burning and maximizing the use of agricultural waste, alongside environmental conservation.

In addition, the project plans to expand to other communities to build collaborative networks for effectively and sustainably addressing air pollution issues in Chiang Mai Province.
