Assistant Professor Dr. Ratchaphon Samphutthanont, Director of the Asian Air Quality Operations Center by Space Technology, Geo-informatics & Environmental Engineering (AiroTEC), Chiang Mai Rajabhat University (CMRU), was officially invited by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) to participate in the international “Seminar on Space Applications for Effective Monitoring of Air Pollution in Asia” held online from 2–3 September 2026. The seminar aimed to promote the application of space technology and strengthen regional cooperation in air quality monitoring across Asia.

At the seminar, Assistant Professor Dr. Ratchaphon Samphutthanont represented Thailand and delivered a presentation entitled “Thailand’s Experience in Multi-Platform Air Quality Monitoring Using Satellite, Airborne, and Ground-Based Observations.” The presentation highlighted Thailand’s experience in integrating air quality observations from satellites, airborne platforms, vertical atmospheric measurements, and ground-based monitoring stations, including the Pandora Spectrometer network. It also presented applications of GIS, remote sensing, and atmospheric models to support the investigation of pollution sources, atmospheric transport, airshed dynamics, and the impacts of air pollution.

The seminar brought together representatives from several countries to present, exchange experiences, and participate in discussions, including the Republic of Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand, and other ASEAN countries. Participants represented space and environmental agencies, research institutions, universities, technical experts, and international organizations. The event provided an important opportunity for AiroTEC and Chiang Mai Rajabhat University to share Thailand’s knowledge and experience on an international platform while strengthening regional networks and collaboration for air pollution monitoring and management across Asia.
